Hi all, I have been lurking in the backround for some time here and I figure its 'bout time to get out and say hi. I have been enjoying reading the forum for about a year and have learned so much. I have not yet assembled a guitar, but have built a dulcimer and done some repair and rebuild of guitars. Built new necks, bent sides, even carved a mandoline top(just to see if I could). So I think its time to make the final step. I have to say you guys are fun to read, besides very informative. do you all know each other and spend holidays together?? it seems that way... ![]() I have a decent compliment of power tools, but truely love hand tools much more. Yeh, i admit I have planed for an hour here and there just to plane. I love the curls.. sorry but I had to admit it to somebody. Anyway, I look forward to learning much more from you experts and hope to be able to give some back in the future. I will try to add a photo of my dulcimer which was built from flamed maple. almost all hand tools... Mike ![]() ![]() |

Again Mike, Welcome and enjoy. Thanks for sharing pictures of your work. I think the ability to easily load pictures is one of the real assets here and it really helps to spread the wealth of knowledge! Shane |

Welcome Mike! Nice looking dulcimer! I've built a few of those myself, my favorite being a walnut one with a cherry top. Yours looks very nice with the curly maple. |

Thank you all for such a warm welcome... just to answer your questions, I have just recently uprooted from upstate NY to a bit north of Charlotte NC. Been here 2 months and just about to start building since I had to convert the garage into a shop. I want to thank you for the kind words about my dulcimer, I am very pleased with it. The wood was from Lowes!! I could always get wood like it there in NY.. they don't even carry maple here ![]() Mike |

Mike, Welcome to North Carolina...I'm a little bit south of Charlotte. There's a guy at my church who builds great dulcimers (plays them well, too)...so folks who share your interest in dulcimers can easily be found. I'm probably only a month (or two) away from starting my first kit build. Great to see you here, and I look forward to pics of your progress. |
